Forests – the lungs of the earth
Humans and forests are linked by a millenia-old liaison. Proverbs and sayings reflect respect and esteem for trees.
For example, when people use the sayings that someone is “a man like a tree” or that one should “not transplant old trees.”
As green lungs, the earth’s forests have an invaluable, vital importance for people. They store the climate-damaging CO2 and produce oxygen. They provide wood for our furniture and paper needs, serve as a habitat for animals and for human recreation. This gives us a special responsibility to preserve and protect the forests.
